"Inside the Box" - I was one of 10 artists to live paint during a weekend at the Ohio State Fair. Many people from different places put Ohio in a pre-labeled box, thinking they know exactly what Ohio is like. However, it is only the people who have lived in Ohio who know exactly what it’s like inside that “box.” Many Ohioans are able to find the fun in the mundane. As someone who was born and raised in Ohio, I remember spending hours on end playing games and catching fireflies in our backyard or a big empty field. As kids, that’s all we really needed to keep us entertained, which is good because let’s face it… Ohio is made up of many fields.
